Status on 22 October 2026
There was no Champions Trophy in 2026. The last edition finished on 9 March 2025 with India as champions. Our research did not find the dates or host of the next men's edition, so we give none.
The 2025 schedule: Pakistan and Dubai
The ICC announced the fixtures on 24 December 2024 (through search summaries of its release and tournament news). Matches were set for Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi in Pakistan, while India's matches were placed at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan played New Zealand in the opening match in Karachi on 19 February 2025. The final was scheduled for Lahore on 9 March, with the condition that it would move to Dubai if India reached it. India did, so the final was played in Dubai.
The 2025 final
India beat New Zealand by four wickets in Dubai on 9 March 2025 (ICC media release, 9 March 2025).
| Team | Score |
|---|---|
| New Zealand | 251 for 7 (50 overs) |
| India | 254 for 6 (49 overs) |
- Rohit Sharma made 76 and was Player of the Match (BCCI headline; ICC, through a search summary).
- India went through the tournament unbeaten (BCCI headline).
- The ICC said India had become the first side to win the Champions Trophy three times.
India's three titles
| Year | Winner | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2002 | India | Listed by the ICC as one of India's three titles; see the note below |
| 2013 | India | Listed by the ICC |
| 2025 | India | Beat New Zealand by four wickets, Dubai, 9 March 2025 |
A note on 2002. The ICC's 2025 release counts 2002 as an Indian title without further comment. Whether that title was shared with Sri Lanka after a washed-out final is something our research did not confirm against an ICC page, so we state only what the ICC's release says.
Other winners the sources mention
The research behind this page does not include a full list of Champions Trophy winners, so we give only the ones the ICC names in passing:
- South Africa, 1998. When South Africa won the World Test Championship final in June 2025, the ICC said it ended a 27-year wait for an ICC trophy, the previous one being the 1998 Champions Trophy.
- Australia. After the 2023 World Test Championship final, the ICC said Australia had become the only side to have won the men's Cricket World Cup, the Champions Trophy, the T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship (through a search summary). The ICC statement does not give the year of Australia's Champions Trophy win, and our research does not either.
Earlier editions not named above are not covered here, and we have not filled them in from memory.
Where it sits among the ICC events
The BCCI's release after the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup listed India as holders of the Champions Trophy alongside the Men's T20 World Cup, the Women's World Cup and both Under-19 World Cups. The ICC's Classification of Official Cricket (with effect from 1 July 2026) treats matches played under the ICC's standard ODI playing conditions between two Full Members as one-day internationals. The events it names, as our research recorded them, are the World Cups, their qualifiers and the Men's Asia Cup, not the Champions Trophy.
A women's T20 Champions Trophy in 2027
On 26 July 2022, naming hosts for its women's events up to 2027, the ICC gave the 2027 Women's T20 Champions Trophy to Sri Lanka, on condition that Sri Lanka qualify. It is upcoming on 22 October 2026; the research did not find its dates or format.
For the 50-over World Cups, see Men's ODI World Cup and Women's ODI World Cup.
